She’s been pleasing audiences with her pop vocals for 57 years, and she’s pleasing two more audiences in Bethesda, Maryland this week.
Some may know Dionne Warwick from her days promoting a psychic hotline or from being fired from “The Apprentice” by President Donald Trump, but before that she burst onto the music scene in 1960 and hasn't stopped.
Warwick, in town for two shows at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club, said when you go to her show, you get what you expect.
“Dionne,” she said with a laugh. “I mean, it’s as simple as that. I’m singing songs hopefully they’ve all grown to love over the years, as I have.”
She is candid about singing her hits.
“How can you get tired of success?” she said.
As for being fired by the president of the United States, “I don’t even want to talk about him,” she said. “Let’s talk about something else.”

In 1967, Warwick appeared at Georgetown University when my father, John Segraves, was the music critic for the Washington Star. He talked about what a fresh sound Warwick was and her thrilling voice.
“I’d love to read that if I could,” she said.
Warwick still performs about 150 shows per year. You can see her Tuesday night and Wednesday night.
