Sure, we don't know who will be president as of noon on Jan. 20, 2013, but oddly enough, we do know what kind of water will be served during the inaugural festivities: Saratoga Spring Water in disposable bottles.
...Or will it?
Following a recent announcement that bottled water would be served at January's presidential inauguration, D.C. Water is asking Congress to reconsider.
"D.C. tap water is a penny per gallon and bottled water costs 100 times more," D.C. Water General Manager George S. Hawkins wrote in a letter today to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
"Hundreds of water samples are tested each week throughout the District to ensure we meet public health standards set by Congress," the letter continues. "DC Water can provide assistance to your Committee in providing and promoting tap water during the inaugural ceremony. If you choose to provide costly, environmentally harmful bottled water, we encourage you to at least provide attendees with a choice and also offer local D.C. tap water."
D.C. Water is offering to give free reusable water bottles to members of Congress, and is willing to perform free water-quality testing in any congressional buildings.
Two calls to Schumer's office weren't picked up.
