D.C. Streetcars Won't Meet Jan. 19 Deadline

Just days before former D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray left office, he set yet another deadline for the D.C. Streetcar to debut -- the week of Jan. 19.

News4 has learned that goal will not be met.

Newly-inaugurated D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has supported the streetcar project in her time as council member, but said she wants to rethink transportation plans and increasingly tight construction budgets for everything.

"We know we have ballooning construction costs in some of our big priority projects and a shrinking borrowing capacity that will force us to make tough choices," she said during her inaugural speech last weekend.
