Some BGE Customers Still Without Power After Irene

It's been more than a week since Irene moved through the D.C. area, and some BGE customers are still without power.

The company says its restored electricity to most of the 750,000 customers who lost service during the storm.

But on Sunday there were still about 1300 customers still in the dark.

BGE officials say that their system experienced unprecedented infrastructure damage, which is why the remaining outages have taken so long to resolve.  BGE says that in some cases, they have had to rebuild portions of the grid from scratch.

Baltimore-based BGE delivers power to 1.2 million electric customers and approximately 640,000 natural gas customers in Central Maryland.

Around the country, around 70,000 were still without power on Sunday afternoon following Hurricane Irene, 19,000 in Virginia.
