D.C. Proposes Legislation to Protect Senior Citizens From Scams

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced new legislation to protect senior citizens from scammers.

If passed, the law will require financial companies to report suspected financial exploitation of seniors and other vulnerable adults.

Those businesses also would be allowed to temporarily delay payments related to suspicious transactions.

A second piece of legislation being introduced will help D.C. move more quickly and effectively to eliminate financial predators.

D.C. is now on pace to become only the third U.S. city designated by the World Health Organization as an age-friendly city, city officials said.
