DC Police Arrest Man Accused of Dumping 1,000 Tires in Southeast

MPD said the man turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued in his name.

A 56-year-old man has been arrested and charged after police allege he illegally dumped over 1,000 tires in Washington, D.C.

Deron Winston McDonald of Alexandria, Virginia, was arrested Wednesday after turning himself in at the Metropolitan Police Department.

News4 previously reported on a special police investigation to track down the suspect responsible for dumping hundreds of old tires around the District. Sources told News4 that McDonald was suspected to have stolen a rental truck and used it to collect tires from local tire shops that paid him to remove the old tires.

Police say McDonald dumped over 1,000 tires in the 4000 block of E Street SE on Nov. 6, 2018. He was charged with illegal dumping.

The team that tracked McDonald down, known as the Dump Busters, used surveillance cameras planted in areas prone to illegal dumping, such as Fort Dupont Park in Southeast, News4 reported.

The Dump Busters team has made more than 130 arrests related to people dumping debris, household goods, and toxic waste in the last year.
