D.C. Mayor Orders Review of Relisha Rudd Case

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray says he's directed two deputy mayors to conduct a review of the case of a missing 8-year-old and make recommendations about any needed reforms.

The mayor said in a statement Tuesday that there is no indication that government agencies or staff failed in the case of Relisha Rudd, who has been missing since March 1. It was Relisha's many absences from school that ultimately caused authorities to go looking for her.

The girl was last seen with a janitor who worked at the city homeless shelter where she was living with her family. The janitor, Kahlil Tatum, was later found dead of apparent suicide during the search for Relisha.

Gray also said he wants to move as many families from the shelter as quickly as possible.
