D.C. Mayor Names New Medical Examiner From N.J.

District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray has named a new medical examiner.

Gray on Friday appointed Roger Mitchell, the assistant state medical examiner in New Jersey, to the position.

Mitchell will oversee the office as it works to become accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners.

He replaces Marie Pierre-Louis, who has been asked to remain on staff as a medical examiner.

Mitchell, who previously trained at the D.C. office and served as an FBI DNA analyst, is expected to start his new job in February.

The medical examiner's office performs more than 1,000 autopsies every year and administers the city's drunken driving testing program.
