Liquor store owners in the District will have something extra to celebrate this July 4th.
The D.C. Council is expected on Tuesday to approve a bill to allow the stores to be open because the holiday falls on a Sunday this year.
"Otherwise, those stores would lose a lot of money," said Ward 1 council member Jim Graham, the bill's sponsor.
The legislation only affects "Class A" liquor stores that sell distilled spirits. Other beer- and wine-only stores are normally open seven days a week.
The proposed bill has no effect on bar hours. A separate law recently allowed bars to open early -- but not sell alcohol -- during the World Cup soccer tournament.
