DC Funk Parade May Not Happen This Year, Organizers Say

Organizers of the annual Funk Parade say the event may not happen this year.

Organizers of the parade and music festival announced Tuesday that they haven't met their 2018 fundraising goals.

The festival needs $60,000 to go on as planned. A crowdfunding campaign has been created as a last ditch effort to save the music festival.

So far, the online campaign has raised more than $3,000.

The annual parade was designed to bring people together through music, dance and the visual arts, and to celebrate and share the history of U Street.

Last year's festival featured artists like the Backyard Band, Sun Ra Arkestra and Batala Washington.

The first Funk Parade happened in 2014 with more than 25,000 Washingtonians participating.
