Free Entry to National Parks This Week

This weekend marks the start of National Park Week, an event that actually runs for nine days. (Bonus!) During that time, many national parks will waive their entrance fees.

In Maryland, visitors will get a chance to watch ponies for free at Assateague Island National Seashore. The park also features tours, exhibits and aquarium tours.

In Virginia, Great Falls Park in McLean will be fee-less, as will Shenandoah National Park.

On Saturday, April 23, the Park Service will hold its National Junior Rangers day, a chance for kids to learn more about nature and history in the parks. Junior Rangers programs are held at many parks around the area, including in the District's Anacostia Park.

The entrance fees will be off until April 24, the end of the "week."
