The District of Columbia's delegate to Congress has scheduled a meeting with National Park Service officials to discuss the frequent breakdowns of the Washington Monument's elevator.
The monument is currently closed while the park service tried to figure out what's wrong with the elevator. Park service spokesman Mike Litterst told WTOP-FM that the frequent breakdowns may be related to the earthquake that hit the nation's capital five years ago.
The monument was closed for nearly three years and needed $15 million worth of repairs, but the elevator wasn't replaced or upgraded during that time.
Democratic Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton says the public should know the reason for the chronic elevator problems. She'll meet with park service officials on Wednesday.
