Deadly Tractor Trailer Accident on I-95

A tractor trailer crash on Route 95 killed one man and closed the roadway near Lorton.

Virginia State Police said a tractor traveling northbound crashed into a vehicle in a work zone 3/4 of a mile north of the Lorton exit.  The crash occured at 2:13 a.m.

Police said the crash ruptured the truck's fuel tank and caused a fire.  The driver, who has yet to be identified, died in the accident.

The truck was carrying produce, according to authorities.  The impacted truck was a "cushion" vehicle set to protect workers and equipment in work zones.  One worker was injured in the accident.

Northbound lanes are shut, however, at 6:15 a.m., the northbound HOV lane was open to traffic.  Crews continue to clean up a large amount of debris that was strewn across the highway.

Police advise commuters to detour onto Route 1 as an alternate route.  Restrictions have been lifted for HOV lanes there.

At 8:30 a.m., authorities reported that all northbound lanes of Route 95 had been reopened.
