D.C. Boy, 3, Drowns in Texas Pond While Visiting Great-Grandma

A 3-year-old boy from Washington, D.C. drowned in a Houston-area pond while visiting his great-grandmother for her 90th birthday.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office says the boy's body was located early Thursday in the water at a home near Angleton, Texas.

The name of the child, who accidentally drowned, wasn't immediately released

Investigators say the boy and his family arrived from D.C. late Wednesday to visit his great-grandmother to celebrate her birthday.

Authorities say the boy apparently ran away as other family members unloaded luggage from their vehicle. Relatives searched to no avail, then called 911.

The home has security video. An investigator who checked the recording saw images of the boy running toward the pond.

Divers helped recover the body.
