D.C.-Area High Schoolers Get $340,000 in Culinary Scholarships

Several Washington, D.C.-area high school students are getting the chance to study cooking at the college level.

The Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) awarded more than $340,000 in scholarships and cash to a group of 21 high school students in the Washington, D.C., region, the group announced.

The scholarships ranged in value from $1,000 to more than $100,000, the group said; at least three students received full-tuition scholarships to culinary schools. C-CAP also gave cash awards to help pay for books, supplies, housing and other expenses.

The Careers through Culinary Arts Program says it "prepares at-risk high school students for college and careers in the restaurant and hospitality industry."
