$300 Million to Ease BRAC Traffic

Those fearing gridlock in Bethesda and Alexandria because of the Pentagon's BRAC plan, a bit of relief was announced today - cash to help alleviate traffic.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski and Sen. Benjamin Cardin announced $300 million in federal funds will be released, to be spent on easing traffic around the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda and Fort Belvoir in Alexandria.

The cash can be spent on road improvements and Metro infrastructure.

Montgomery County executive Isiah Leggett expressed his appreciation for the new money.  "Thanks to the new transportation appropriation," he said in a statement, "patients and doctors will not be denied timely access to the hospital because they are mired in untenable gridlock.”
