Daylight Saving Time Versus Your Weekend Metro Travel

Daylight saving time begins Sunday, jumping our clocks to an hour forward and our moods an hour sleepier.

With an hour "lost," you'll want to note that you'll also lose an hour if you're taking the Metro system.

Metro normally closes at 3 a.m. on the weekends, but this Saturday "night" (technically, very early Sunday), when clocks hit 2 a.m., they'll jump to 3 a.m. -- and that means the system will close.

Metro riders can expect services to return to their normal operating hours Sunday morning at 7 a.m.

Also affecting the weekend commute is continued rail work on the Red, Orange, Blue and Green lines.

This weekend, trains on the Red, Orange and Blue lines will bypass the Metro Center station, which will be closed for sign and lighting upgrades. Free shuttle buses will run between Federal Triangle, Metro Center and Gallery Place.

All Green Line service will remain the same, except at the Greenbelt station, where trains will arrive every 20-25 minutes (between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.). Other Green line trains are expected to run regularly.
