Day Care Worker Arrested for Sexual Battery in Fairfax County

Police in Fairfax County have arrested and charged a day care employee in Springfield, Virginia, after two children said the employee had inappropriately touched them.

Fairfax County Police charged 38-year-old Rolly Hammond of Burke with three counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of forcible sodomy and one count of indecent liberties by a custodian on Thursday.

Hammond, a day care worker with the Department of Family Services School Age Child Care program at West Springfield Elementary School, was identified Thursday by a child who said Hammond had touched them inappropriately.

That report sparked an investigation by FCPD and Child Protective Services that found an additional juvenile who said Hammond had abused them for several years.

Police said in a news conference on Friday that they are looking for additional victims.

"My prayers will continue to be with the victims and their families as a predator has dramatically harmed their lives," Col. Edwin C. Roessler Jr., the Fairfax County police chief said.

Hammond had worked for the county since February 2008, when he was posted at Ravensworth Elementary School, police said.

According to FCPD, Hammond was a day care teacher and participated in the School Age Child Care program's spring and winter break programs. He also worked at Rolling Valley Elementary School, police said.

FCPD detectives ask for anyone with information to call 703-246-7800.
