City lawmakers in D.C. want to tackle bullying in schools and cyberspace.
Modeled after Maryland's new tough anti-bullying law, the legislation would make D.C. the eighth jurisdiction to specifically protect students who are bullied for gender identity or sexual orientation. It also would protect them from bullying for other causes, whether in person or through text messages, emails, Facebook posts and other kinds of cyber-bullying.
The proposal would also authorize D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee to establish a uniform policy to prevent bullying and deal with bullies.
