CVS Recycling Response

CVS Caremark is committed to measures that reduce the company’s waste, repurpose materials, and creates a culture of recycling throughout our operations and our supply chain.  We are disappointed that some of our stores in Washington, DC apparently did not adhere to the DPW’s recycling procedures. We are providing all of our locations in the District with enhanced communications and signage to ensure that recyclable material is disposed of properly, as well as updated recycling receptacles. We are also transitioning our Washington stores to a new waste hauler next month.

We strive to continually improve our company-wide recycling initiatives and have numerous programs in place, including the recycling of cardboard packaging and corrugated plastic, the expansion of our plastic shopping bag and plastic bottle recycling program, and working with waste haulers to identify single-source recycling. For example, last year we recycled 182 tons of plastic stretch wrap and 44,000 tons of cardboard.
