Could Torrey Smith Join Mike Locksley's Maryland Staff? Well, Check This Out

Following the departure of Joker Phillips to N.C. State, the Maryland Terrapins football program has an opening at wide receivers coach. And one former Terps standout has thrown himself into the ring of potential candidates.

Well, kinda.

Former Terrapin and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith was asked on Twitter on Tuesday by one user if he would consider taking the wide receiver coach job.

Smith then responded with the eyes emoji, which led current Terrapins head coach Mike Locksley to take notice.

Locksley would respond with the caption "say less" and a GIF of Smith himself, with the former wide receiver pointing to the Maryland logo on the pullover he was wearing.

While this, of course, is not a formal job interview, the back-and-forth between the two of them shows Smith at least has some potential interest in joining the staff.

Locksley and Smith never overlapped at Maryland, as the current Terps head coach was on the Illinois staff when the wide receiver was in college.

However, Locksley has been well-known around the DMV for several decades and Smith even campaigned for him to get the Maryland head coach job back in 2015. Plus, the two have worked together this past fall as analysts on NBC Sports Washington's Washington Football Pregame Live.

Smith is one of the best wide receivers in Terrapins history. Based on this Twitter conversation, it appears Locksley would at least consider hiring Smith to his staff if he wanted the job.
