A 51-year-old corrections officer is accused of smuggling items to D.C. prisoners in exchange for money.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Darren Malry worked for the Corrections Corporation of America, which contracted him out to the D.C. Jail.
Undercover FBI agents met with Malry on two separate occasions this year at a Greenbelt, Md. mall.
In one instance, an agent gave Malry a cell phone, cigarettes and rolling papers to hand off to an inmate at the jail in exchange for $750. Several weeks later on April 21, an undercover agent gave him cigarettes and a substance resembling marijuana in exchange for $600.
Malry was charged with bribery.
