A lesson on the civil war sparked some controversy in Norfolk, Virginia when a teacher made minority students pretend to be slaves.
Jessica Boyle is a fourth grade teacher at Sewells Point Elementary School.
She staged a mock slave auction of African-American and mixed-race students.
It was supposed to part of a Civil War history lesson.
The principal sent a note home to parents saying the teacher's actions were well-intended, but the activity was inappropriate.
Norfolk Public Schools said appropriate personnel action is being taken.
Boyle has been teaching in Norfolk for six years.
