Contractor Tries Again to Get Abu Ghraib Lawsuit Tossed Out

A defense contractor that supplied interrogators to the notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq is again seeking to toss out a lawsuit seeking to hold the company responsible for abuses that occurred there.

Four former inmates at Abu Ghraib sued a subsidiary of Arlington-based CACI International Inc., saying that CACI employees conspired to torture them to soften them up for interrogations.

On Friday, CACI's lawyers will ask a judge in federal court in Alexandria to dismiss the lawsuit. They argue that CACI employees worked in tandem with military counterparts, and their actions during a time of war amount to "political questions'' that can't be litigated in court.

The judge tossed the lawsuit out in 2013 on different grounds, but the federal appeals court in Richmond revived the case last year.
