Two-Ton Concrete Slab Falls on Arlington Construction Worker

A construction worker is hurt after he was trapped in Arlington, Virginia, beneath a concrete slab that weighed 2 tons, officials say.

The Arlington County fire department rescued the 35-year-old worker and rushed him to a hospital. 

The slab fell on the worker's "lower extremities" on the 4700 block of Old Dominion Drive, a fire department representative said. Firefighters arrived just after 2 p.m.

Information on the extent of the worker's injuries or what caused the slab to fall was not available immediately. The worker was not identified. 

Traffic in the area was blocked. The fire department asked drivers to avoid the area.
