Construction Worker Dies in Trench Cave-In

25-year-old construction worker killed in Severn, Md.

A 25-year-old construction worker was killed when the trench in which he was working caved in about 10 a.m. Monday.

The man was believed to be alone in the 7-foot-deep trench behind a single-family home in the 1000 block of Leyton Lane in Severn, Md., when the dirt surrounding the trench collapsed and buried him, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

After 3 1/2 hours, 45 personnel from technical rescue teams from Anne Arundel and Howard counties  and the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works removed the man's body.

The company the man worked for had been contracted to build a deck at the home. He may have been pouring concrete, reported News4's Tony Tull.

The Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Department is investigating.
