Company Accused of Ripping Off Virginia Craft Brewery Files for Bankruptcy

Dozen breweries report problems with Ohio company

The owners of a company accused of ripping off a local brewery filed for bankruptcy.

Sinistral Brewing Company in Manassas, Virginia, sent $70,000 to SysTech Stainless Works in Ohio for a brew system. After months of waiting, they learned SysTech was going out of business and were told they wouldn't be getting their money back.

Other breweries across the country had similar complaints.

Now SysTech owners Jason and Amanda Spurrell have filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. In the filing, they checked a box estimating their number of creditors between 50 and 99.

Among them is Screech Owl Brewing in West Virginia, which sued SysTech and won a $34,000 judgement.

A brewery in Georgia won a $307,000 default judgement.

Several more lawsuits are pending.
