Community Unsettled After Three Armed Robberies in an Hour

A series of three armed robberies in less than an hour has a typically quiet community unnerved.

Northwest D.C. near Chevy Chase is usually safe, community members said. But in the early morning hours Tuesday, an armed robber approached three people and wielded a pistol.

“He grabbed me like a bear hug from behind, and I was like, 'What’s this?' And then I turned around and then he had a very small pistol in one hand,” said one victim, who asked to remain anonymous.

The robber allegedly approached victims, demanded cellphones and money, and brandished a weapon. The robber is thought to target victims walking alone.

The three robberies occurred at Quesada Street and Western Avenue, Connecticut Avenue and Military Road, and 35th and Albemarle streets.

“I can’t believe we’ve had the armed robberies overnight that we’ve had. It’s quite scary. It has us very unnerved here,” said ANC Commissioner Carolyn Cook.

The three armed robberies may be connected to other armed holdups in the area.
