Almost 21 million passengers flew out of Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport last year, up 2.3 percent from the year before.
BWI is one of only two major U.S. airports to report an increase in passengers in a year when air travel was down. Comparatively, passenger traffic at Dulles International was down 2 percent last year.
The only other airport to see growth was San Francisco International.
BWI’s executive director credits the D.C. region’s stronger economy compared to other metropolitan areas and growth at Southwest Airlines.
