BWI Makes Changes to Ease Holiday Traffic Congestion

Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is making some changes intended to ease traffic that sometimes backs up during the hectic holiday season.

Spokesman Jonathan Dean says the airport is offering free parking for the first hour in its hourly garage until Jan. 15. It's also expanding its cellphone lot by 50 spaces.

The Baltimore Sun reported Monday that BWI also rolled out new rules for shuttles, taxis and ride-share vehicles. They are required to pick up and drop off passengers on the upper departures level to further ease congestion on the lower level, which generally is more crowded.

Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says those flying this week should arrive two hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights.
