Bus, Biking Blamed for Metro Ridership Decline

Metro says riders have been choosing to ride the bus or a bike to get where they need to go, causing a significant decline in train ridership over the past two years.

The transit agency also attributed a downturn in the number of federal and private jobs in the area and an overall decline in the economy for low ridership.

Metro says the growth of bus and biking services like Capital Bikeshare and its pricing have also taken riders away from Metrorail.

The agency says it is working hard to encourage and generate new ridership.
