The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Dorel Asia SRL are recalling 445,000 wooden bunk beds because the side rails can split and cause the bunk bed to collapse.
CPSC knows of 23 incidents where the side rails have cracked or broken with seven reports of bruises or abrasions.
The Dorel Asia bunk beds were sold at Wal-Mart, Kmart and Target stores and online from September 2004 through September 2009 for about a $190.
CPSC said consumers should stop using the beds and contact Dorel Asia to receive a free repair kit. Until the kit arrives CPSC says take the beds down and use them as separate twin beds.
