Bowie Community Center Shooting Suspect’s Brother Killed Two Weeks Ago

A man suspected in a shooting near a community center in Bowie, Maryland, Tuesday evening is the brother of an 18-year-old shot and killed a block away two weeks ago, Prince George's County Bureau Chief Tracee Wilkins reports.

Police believe Tuesday's shooting was retaliation.

Christopher Carl King Jr. shot Melvin Thomas Jr. multiple times at the Huntington Community Center, police said. King was arrested on Saturday and is charged with attempted murder and shooting offenses.

Thomas is hospitalized in stable condition.

Shots also were fired at a white van, according to a witness.

Early June 4, Devante Marcus King, 18, was found in a yard in the 13000 block of 6th Street after neighbors reported gunshots to police. He was taken to a hospital where he died. and called police about 1:15 a.m., police said. Police believe he was targeted.

Robert Myers, 22, was arrested and charged in that case.
