Body of Man Who Disappeared at Sandy Point State Park Recovered

The body of a 71-year-old man who wandered away from members of his group home while on a trip to Sandy Point State Park has been recovered.

Burns Brabham's body was pulled from the water at the Annapolis, Maryland, park Wednesday, Maryland Natural Resources police said.

Brabham's group home came from Pennsylvania to visit the park Tuesday.

Brabham was known to walk long distances and loved the park, Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson said. He visited Sandy Point last year and had been talking about returning ever since.

When it was time to leave the park at 3 p.m., Brabham became upset and wandered away from the group, Thomson said. Police say Brabham suffered from mental illness, was legally blind and was not familiar with the area.

Search teams combed every inch of the 800-acre park Tuesday and continued their search Wednesday.
