Body Found on Route 50 Median in Prince George's County

The man found dead on a median in Prince George's County Monday morning was thrown from a stolen motorcycle the night before, Maryland State Police said.

A State Highway Administration employee reported the body on U.S. Route 50 near Kenilworth Avenue in Cheverly about 10:20 a.m. Monday Prince George’s County medical personnel pronounced 34-year-old Kevin Christie of northwest D.C. dead at the scene, police said.

Christie lost control of a 2012 Kawasaki ZR1000 motorcycle and crashed just before 10 p.m. Sunday, police said. He was thrown about 150 feet from the point of impact. The bike stopped in the shoulder.

Someone reported the abandoned motorcycle that night, but police didn’t find a body in the area. They could not trace it to an owner because it had no plates and the VIN was scratched off, News4's Tracee Wilkins reported.

The investigation into the stolen motorcycle, which was reported missing out of Virginia, continues. It is unknown who stole it or how it came into Christie's possession, Wilkins reported.

No one witnessed the crash, but police said it doesn't look like foul play.

Authorities notified Christie's family Monday evening.

"He was here Sunday talking to my husband," said his cousin Paula Jiles. "They were outside, and he was riding down the -- he was pretty much speeding."

She said Christie popped a wheelie and she was surprised by how fast he drove.
