ACCOKEEK, Md. -- A woman was struck and killed on Indian Head Highway in Accokeek, police said.
Prince George's County police responded to the scene before 6 a.m. Thursday after a report of someone lying on the highway near Berry Road. The victim, 36-year-old Oluwawemimo Akinuli, of northeast Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Akinuli was struck by a vehicle. The driver left the scene, thinking he had hit an animal. When he got home, he called the Charles County Sheriff's Office and reported possibly hitting an animal, according to authorities.
It is unknown why Akinuli was in the area.
No charges have been filed.
