D.C. Animal Control tranquilized and captured a black bear that was roaming through back yards in a neighborhood near Sibley Memorial Hospital on Wednesday morning.

Authorities are working with the National Zoo to determine a location outside of the district where they can safely release the bear back into the wilderness.

Around 9:30 a.m., Animal Control officers subdued the bear with a tranquilizer dart after it darted into a thick patch of bamboo in the backyard of a home.

After being released back into the wild, the bear was apparently still feeling the effects of the tranquilizer dart.
