Maryland lawmakers will be hearing testimony on a measure to raise the state's minimum wage.
The bill is scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday in the House Economic Matters Committee.
Gov. Martin O'Malley is backing the measure, which would raise the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 by 2016. The bill also would index the minimum wage to adjust for inflation in the future.
The Democratic governor is making a minimum wage increase a priority of the legislative session, his last as governor. O'Malley urged lawmakers to support an increase during his State of the State speech last month.
Opponents highlighted a study released in Annapolis on Monday that noted potential downsides a minimum wage hike would have on small businesses.
