Barry Out of Intensive Care

Former mayor's donor may leave hospital Tuesday

D.C. Councilman Marion Barry was moved out of intensive care Monday and into a patient room at Howard University Hospital following Friday's kidney transplant.

Barry's transplant physician, Dr. Clive Callender, said Barry is recovering well. If he continues to progress at his current pace, he could be released from the hospital by Thursday, Callender said.

The woman who donated the kidney, Kim Dickens, is also progressing well, Callender said. She could be released as early as Tuesday.

Barry successfully underwent kidney transplant surgery Friday night and told his spokeswoman, Natalie Williams, on Saturday that he was "A-OK."
