Back to School Fair in Prince George's Co.

It may still feel like summer, but it's time to head back to school. And Prince George's County is making sure that students are ready with a back to school fair.

The fair is happening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro. It's a "one stop" place for everything kids need to start a successful school year -- including immunizations, backpack giveaways and a lot of information.

“Each year attendance at the fair continues to grow,” said Dr. Segun C. Eubanks, Board of Education Chair. “This is due to the tremendous support we receive from our community partners, whose participation is key to the success of this event.”

More than 400 school representatives, county representatives and local businesses, will be at the fair.

You can buy your student's school uniforms, get any needed immunizations for free, or pick up a donated backpack:

BACKPACKS

Families will receive one ticket for a backpack per child. To redeem backpacks, families must visit at least one display and have the representatives initial the ticket in the space provided.

One backpack per child, and backpacks are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Students must attend the fair to receive a free backpack.

IMMUNIZATION

The Prince George’s County Health Department and PGCPS Health Services are partnering to provide free chickenpox vaccines to students entering kindergarten and Grade 1, and free tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccines and meningitis vaccines to students entering Grades 7 and 8.

To pre-register, call 301-583-3300. Walk-ins are also accepted. Parents must be present and bring their child’s immunization record. For more information about the new school vaccine requirements, call 301-749-4556 or visit the PGCPS website.
