Australian Man Missing for Months After Visiting DC

A man from Australia has been missing for months after traveling to Washington, D.C.

John Wayne Regan came to D.C. to see a Georgetown University professor he met online.

Sara Singha of Georgetown's Berkley Center for Religion, Peace & World Affairs said she last saw him in January, when he told her he was going to meet some friends.

Since then, he's missed the February wedding of his sister, with whom he was very close. There’s been no activity on his credit cards, and he had only a week’s worth of clothing.

“I really hope and pray that someone out there is listening and that can remember seeing John and that can let people know that at least he’s alive and well,” said his mother, Anne Regan.

Regan’s mother thinks he’s in some sort of harm’s way.

“I’m going to put the word cult out there because I think it would be some sort of cult to hold him there,” his mother said.

His family hired private investigator George Kucik.

“The family’s concerned that he’s not OK,” Kucik said. “We’re not trying to force him home or anything like that. The family wants to know, is he OK? Is he wherever he is on his own volition?”

Anyone who has seen him or has information about his whereabouts should call police at 202-727-9099.
