American University will be the first school in the region to get a ``university pass'' for Metro, which will give students unlimited riding privileges at a discounted price.
Metro announced earlier this week that in the fall, all full-time undergraduate, graduate and law students at American University will get the student pass as part of a pilot program.
Students will get a specially designed SmarTrip card with the school logo. Metro says more than 10,000 students will get the cards, which will be issued at the beginning of the academic year.
Metro says that the program will generate about $2.7 million, about $1 a day for each student during the semester, and that the program will be evaluated at the end of the first year.
