40 ATV Drivers Swarm, Chase Off D.C. Officer; Others Kick Cruiser

About 40 ATV drivers drove toward officer, who got back into cruiser and fled

D.C. police say a massive group of ATV drivers kicked a police cruiser and chased off an officer after he attempted to make a traffic stop over the weekend.

The officer was attempting to stop a woman who was starting up her all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in the 1200 block of Clifton Street NW around 6 p.m. Sunday, said a D.C. police spokeswoman.

The female ATBV driver was apparently preparing to drive on the street, which is illegal in the District.

But as the officer tried to stop her, several other people walked up and began kicking his cruiser.

That's when, police say, about 40 ATV drivers approached the officer, driving toward him on their vehicles. Police say the officer returned to his vehicle and left the scene.

There's no word on any damage to the cruiser or a description of the ATV drivers involved.
