Full body scanners now used as primary screening device

Flying out of BWI Airport anytime soon? Well then prepare for a rather invasive security scan.

Starting Tuesday, the Transportation Security Administration will begin using four advanced-imaging technology machines as the primary tool for screening passengers at several checkpoints.  Before now, they were used only as a backup screening method, with passengers asked at random to go through them.

The technology allows security officers to see through your clothes.  They'll see images of your body on a computer screen, but your facial features will be blurred out.

For now, you won't be required to go through the machine.  You still have the option of choosing the metal detector and a pat down.

BWI is expected to get several more of the devices by the end of the year.
