Ask Liz: Food Thermometer

It's the heat of the summer, and cookouts are quickly becoming a weekend routine. So, after using a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of meats like chicken and burgers, what’s the best way to clean it off? We turned to the US Department of Agriculture for the answer.

It says that after you use your food thermometer, you don’t need any special cleaners. Good old hot, soapy water is perfect for cleaning off the stem. Also, never put food thermometers in the dishwasher unless the manufacturer’s directions say it’s ok.

As a reminder, different foods have different safe internal temperatures. Get the scoop for every type of meat by visiting the USDA's website.
