Arsonist Hits Va. Eastern Shore Again

Abandoned shed burns early Tuesday morning

An abandoned shed was the latest arson target on Virginia's Eastern Shore.

Virginia State Police tell WAVY that the fire occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday on Metompkin Road just south of Nelsonia Road. Investigators say the shed was overgrown with trees and was destroyed by the fire.

Between 70 and 80 deliberately set fires have occurred on the Eastern Shore since last November. Most of the structures have been abandoned. No injuries have been reported.

A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Authorities have not been able to specify a motive for the fires.
