The victim once lived in a West African embassy on Massachusetts Avenue, an embassy official said

Police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a 23-year-old woman in Northwest Washington.

Waliyatou Amadou died Sunday after she was found in the hallway of a building on the 1400 block of W Street NW, D.C. police said. She lived less than a half-mile away, on Clifton Street NW.

On Wednesday, police arrested 27-year-old Deangelo Thorne and charged him with second-degree murder while armed.

Amadou's death is the third homicide in the District this year.

Amadou's father once worked as a driver for the Embassy of Togo, the West African country from which her family hails. An embassy official said the family once lived at the embassy, which is located along Massachusetts Avenue's Embassy Row.
