The FBI is investigating whether an attempted robbery of a CVS in Maryland Thursday morning is connected to more than two dozen similar robberies in the state beginning Christmas Eve.
Montgomery County police took four people taken into custody after a robbery attempt right across the street from a police station in the Glenmont Shopping Center in Silver Spring about 4:15 a.m.
Police already were watching pharmacies after a string of armed robberies at CVS, Rite Aid and 7-Eleven locations.
A police officer noticed a car leaving the area around the time of the robbery Thursday. Police stopped the car about 5 miles away and took four peopl einto custody.
The arrests come exactly one week after a man robbed three pharmacies in Montgomery County. Similar crimes have been reported in Prince George's, Anne Arundel and Howard counties.
"It's apparent that there are similar events in other jurisdictions. Robbery detectives have been talking to one another for the past several weeks about this trend," said Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks.
Police say they don't know if the cases are related.
