Armed Robbery Suspects Caught After NW D.C. Chase

Two report Monday morning robberies

WASHINGTON -- Two armed robbery suspects were arrested after a chase down busy D.C. streets Monday.

Before 11 a.m. Monday, a woman told police she had been the victim of an armed robbery in the 4600 block of Alton Place in Northwest, according to police. At about 11:30 a.m., another armed robbery was reported in the 3800 block of Calvert Street in Northwest.

Officers saw a vehicle matching the description of the robbers' vehicle -- a dark-colored Hyundai Sonata -- on Virginia Avenue and pursued it after an attempt to stop it failed.

The men abandoned the car and fled on foot after striking a barrier in the 1200 block of North Capitol Street in Northwest, according to police. They were apprehended a short time later.

The suspects, 18-year-old Jovan Johnson and a 17-year-old boy, are facing several charges, police said. Their vehicle was reported stolen in a Bladensburg, Md., carjacking.

The suspects could be connected to a half-dozen other robberies.
