A former supervisor at an Arlington County motor vehicle office pleaded guilty Tuesday to accepting more than $11,000 in bribes from a luxury vehicle exporter.
Francisco Samayoa Hernandez, 33, of Silver Spring, Md., worked as a tax assessor supervisor at DMV Select, which the county operates under contract with the Virginia DMV to provide services like registration and title processing.
At a plea hearing Tuesday in federal court in Alexandria, Hernandez admitted to accepting about $11,480 in bribes from a vehicle exporter to falsify DMV paperwork.
The paperwork allowed the exporter to avoid nearly $25,000 in registration and title fees on a Lamborghini and multiple Ferraris, Porsches and Mercedes, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.
Hernandez also admitted to serving as a straw buyer for three BMWs and falsely told a dealership that he was not purchasing the vehicle for export.
Court records show Hernandez received 15 separate bribe payments between July 2012 and November.
Hernandez faces up to 10 years in prison. He'll be sentenced June 9.
